I’ve made it back from a very enjoyable concert trip to Alaska and have a few days to prepare for upcoming concerts; Thanksgiving falls in the same week, and this week marks my first year back in America.
Alaska was very fun – cold and a bit rainy, but Juneau is a pretty town and the concert went well. I also had the opportunity to meet/play for/converse with two classes at a local elementary school; it’s always fun to engage with kids and share music with them. I drive down to San Francisco on Friday to pick up Laurens and begin our concerts here in Oregon, after which I have a smattering of accompaniment gigs until the end of the year. I’m looking forward to starting some new repertoire after the 6th of December!
As an end note, the time of year has moved my thoughts on what I am thankful for; several of my private students are now beginning to read music ‘on the staff’ after a month or so of preparatory lessons, and I find myself very thankful to be in a position where I can pass along knowledge and not only continue a craft, but make a difference in the life of a young person.
This by the by.
Back to practice.
